This Privacy Policy applies to all services and products offered by Life Education Australia (‘Life Ed’, ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’) including our online resources and surveys, mobile application(s), as well as the delivery of programs into school and collection of donations.

Personal information is important

Personal information includes any information or an opinion from which an individual’s identity is apparent or reasonably apparent. This includes information such as a person’s name, address, date of birth, and similar.

Life Ed is committed to safeguarding personal privacy, particularly in relation to personal information collected from minors. We recognise that individuals have a right to know how their personal information is collected and used. Providing personal information is an act of trust and it is taken seriously by Life Ed. This Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information. We may also collect, use or disclose personal information in other circumstances where we obtain your consent to do so.

Life Ed is committed to abiding by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and other applicable privacy laws.

What personal information do we collect?

The nature of Life Ed’s services and products is that we generally do not collect personal information through our website, other digital channels, or general business. We may however collect personal information in the following circumstances:

Information collected for recruitment purposesWhen you apply for a job or volunteering position with us we may collect certain information from you (including your name, contact details, working history and relevant records checks) from any recruitment consultant, your previous employers and others who may be able to provide information to us to assist in our decision on whether or not to make you an offer of employment or engage you under a contract.
Additional information you provideThis includes information you provide to us through customer surveys, directly through our website or indirectly through your use of our website or mobile application or digital channels. In more limited circumstances, we may collect your story and/or image with your consent.
Information collected by cookiesWe may collect de-identified metadata information via cookies on our website, such as your browser type, operating systems and other websites visited (see 'Use of cookies' below). We may also collect some personal information when using cookies, such as where a cookie is linked to your account.

Life Ed may collect personal information from minors under the age of 18. When it does it will, as far as reasonably possible, seek the permission of a parent or guardian for the collection, use, or disclosure of this information.

How do we use and disclose your personal information?

We may collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information for the following purposes:

• payment systems operators (e.g., when receiving card payments for donations);
• our sponsors or promoters of any competition that we conduct via our services;
• specific third parties authorised by you to receive information held by us;
• other persons, including government agencies, regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies, or as required, authorised or permitted by law; and
• Life Ed’s state and local organisations in Australia.

Mobile application use

This Privacy Policy applies to any mobile application operated by or on behalf of Life Ed. When you use a Life Ed mobile application, Life Ed may collect, use, and hold metadata related to the mobile application, including metadata collected by third party analytics and reporting platforms such as ‘App Figures’.

The metadata collected may include:

• the device’s operating system;
• how many times the applications have been downloaded;
• in which countries the applications were downloaded;
• on what dates the applications were downloaded; and
• usage reviews.

Life Ed may also collect personal information if you create or log in to a mobile application account.

Life Ed’s mobile applications do not permit in-app purchases, advertising or integration with social networks, or similar.

Use of cookies

Cookies are pieces of information that a web site transfers to a computer’s hard disk for record keeping purposes. Most web browsers are set to accept cookies. Life Ed uses cookies to make use of the website and services as convenient as possible. Cookies allow Life Ed to record how many people are using the different parts of the site. It is possible to set the browser to refuse cookies, however, this may limit the functionality of our website and services.

Cookies are principally used for internal purposes only, in order to:

• provide access to features and activities on our sites and applications;
• customise content and improve our sites and applications;
• conduct research and analysis to address the performance of our sites and applications; and
• generate anonymous reporting for use by Life Ed.

Direct marketing

Life Ed may contact individuals using the information that was provided by those individuals in order to provide information that may be of interest about upgrades, new Life Ed products, services, special offers, fundraising and general marketing information and other matters that may be of interest.

If an individual receives communications from Life Ed which they do not wish to receive, they can unsubscribe using the links on the communication received, or remove their name from the database by contacting Life Ed via admin@lifeed.org.au. Please allow 7 days for this request to be processed.

We may also market our services to you generally – including via social media, advertising through our website or through third party websites and other digital or non-digital platforms. We’ll always do this in accordance with our legal requirements.

Changing and deleting the information we have about users

Information contained on the database may be amended by contacting Life Ed via admin@lifeed.org.au. In the same way, a request may be made to delete personal information and all reasonable steps to delete the information will be made, except where it is required for legal reasons. Deletion of information may result in Life Ed being unable to provide certain services.

Storage and security of personal information

We store all personal information in Australia, and in accordance with all applicable laws. Life Ed will endeavour to take all reasonable steps to keep secure any personal information recorded, and to keep this information accurate and up to date. The information is stored on secure servers that are protected in controlled facilities. Life Ed employees and data processors are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by Life Ed. However, security of communications over the Internet cannot be guaranteed, and therefore absolute assurance that information will be secure at all times cannot be given. We take all reasonable steps to protect the information in our systems from misuse, interference, loss, and any unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Links to other web sites, third party links, and third party comments

The Life Ed website sometimes provides links to third party websites. Other Life Ed digital channels may contain links or comments posted by third party channel users. Third party linked sites are not under the control of Life Ed, and Life Ed is not responsible for the conduct or content of those third party sites. Life Ed takes reasonable steps to monitor its digital channels, and third party links, but is not responsible for the quality or content of those sites or comments. Please contact Life Ed if you have a particular concern.

Rights in relation to personal information

You have rights in relation to your personal information. You can contact us to exercise any of your rights in relation to your information.

ComplainIf you are dissatisfied with how Life Ed has dealt with your personal information, or you have a complaint about Life Ed’s compliance with the Privacy Act, Life Ed may be contacted at admin@lifeed.org.au. Life Ed will acknowledge your complaint within seven days, and provide a decision on the complaint within 30 days. If a user is dissatisfied with Life Ed’s response they may make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner who can be contacted either at oaic.gov.au, or by telephone on 1300 363 992.
AccessYou may request a copy of the personal information held by Life Ed. Information may be reviewed by contacting Life Ed via admin@lifeed.org.au.
CorrectYou may request that your information be corrected or updated by contacting Life Ed via admin@lifeed.org.au. In the same way, a request may be made to delete personal information and all reasonable steps to delete the information will be made, except where it is required for legal reasons. Deletion of information may result in Life Ed being unable to provide certain services.

Changes in our policy

Life Ed is constantly reviewing all of our polices and attempt to keep up to date. Technology is constantly changing, as is the law.

As a consequence, we may change this policy from time to time or as the need arises. We will post any changes to this policy on our website. We will not inform you personally of changes to the policy and you should therefore check our website regularly to ensure you are aware of our current policy.
