Reality Now

For Years 7 - 11

Consisting of curriculum-aligned modules, 'Reality Now' empowers students to navigate safe and healthy choices regarding alcohol and drugs. The program employs a distinctive social norms approach, fostering awareness and informed decision-making. By promoting responsible behaviour, the program equips to make safe and healthier choices about alcohol and other drugs.

Overview

Reality Now, a student-centred alcohol and drug education program for secondary students. We work with schools equip young people with the skills to stay safe from drug-related harms, while closing the gap between perception and reality, grounding the choices young people make.

By fostering awareness and dispelling misconceptions, Reality Now not only educates but also cultivates a culture of responsible decision-making, ensuring that students are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of choices related to substance use, promoting a healthier and safer future.

Year 7

Classroom activities and assessment tasks to consolidate and extend student’s learning after the Life Ed session. Learning intentions: - Students explore their perceptions of smoking, vaping and other drugs. - Students develop strategies of dealing with peer pressure and the navigation of the role of drugs in their lives.

Year 8

Classroom activities and assessment tasks to consolidate and extend student’s learning after the Life Ed session. Learning intentions: - Students learn about the range of effects drugs can have and the way different drugs can be categorised. - Students use each other’s understanding to explore different perspectives and experiences with drugs.

Step 2: Life Ed Visit

To be completed with your class after the Life Ed visit.This is the core part of the program. If you have booked a visit with Life Ed, this will be delivered in the Mobile Learning Centre or in your classroom by a specialist Life Ed Educator.

Year 9

Classroom activities and assessment tasks to consolidate and extend student’s learning after the Life Ed session. Learning intentions: - Students explore the different societal influences of drug-use. - Students reflect on the influences in their own lives and how they can navigate their choices.

Year 10

Classroom activities and assessment tasks to consolidate and extend student’s learning after the Life Ed session. Learning intentions: - Build understanding of the cost of drugs and alcohol on society. - Enhance awareness of governmental interventions on vaping, promoting a deeper understanding of societal challenges. - Foster curiosity and activate critical thinking on the impact of smoking and vaping, alcohol and other drugs on their health and wellbeing.
